Join in the fun with the 1st Annual Rockaway Bike Parade hosted by Rockaway Waterfront Alliance. This FREE event invites bikers and those interested in other forms of “human-powered” transport to take part in a 3 mile parade to promote alternative transportation. Advanced registration is required for all participants.
ALL ARE INVITED
Parade participants including school groups and civic organizations are encouraged to wear something fun, goofy or ridiculous as they pedal or walk their way along the Rockaway Beach boardwalk with a bike or other human power vehicle – roller skates, baby strollers, pogo sticks, skateboards, scooters, ice cream carts all welcome. People of all ages are welcome to participate- children under 14 must have an adult sign their waiver and accompany them on the parade. Participants are required to bring their own bicycles.
For anyone interested in joining in the fun, artist Jessica Findlay is seeking additional riders to wear her fabulous inflatable costumes for the Aeolian Ride group. If you are interested, check it out at: http://www.aeolian-ride.info
Prior to the parade, there will be decorating workshops for the public to dress up their bike and collect information on bike safety, so please arrive early as supplies are limited.
CREATIVITY AWARDED!
Participants and groups are eligible to compete for prizes in the “Best of Show” competition in 3 judged categories: most unique, most entertaining and most green/environmentally friendly.
