VOLUNTEER

Rockaway Waterfront Alliance (RWA) volunteers provide much of the lifeblood of our organization’s outreach and advocacy efforts. They are integral to our work, as they help us ensure that our efforts stay rooted in the local community’s needs. By volunteering with RWA, you will be making a public statement about your commitment to the principles of environmental justice and to the work that RWA does. You can support efforts either directly or indirectly by doing the following:

• Become an RWA Member and join our mailing list to receive information and action alerts regarding upcoming events, meetings and workshops on environmental issues affecting the Rockaway Peninsula.

• Volunteer to join our community outreach efforts, which include leafleting, phone banking and door-to-door outreach

• Volunteer to help plan meetings and get the word out, and to help with large mailings

• Encourage your friends, co-workers and family members to become RWA Members, thus helping to build a strong base of community residents and organizations dedicated to achieving environmental justice

• Contact us about sending letters to policy makers representing Rockaway & Broad Channel communities to encourage them to take action to protect the health and environment of Jamaica Bay and Rockaway residents.

• Make a financial contribution to support the work of our organization

• Attend public events regarding sustainability, environmental and health issues to assist in advocacy

• Assist in organizing a meeting/workshop which RWA can present on environmental/environmental health/environmental justice issues
