Living Classroom

Rockaway Waterfront Alliance provides environmental education programs to students in Far Rockaway Public Schools. Our “Living classroom” program utilizes the waterfront that surrounds the Rockaway Peninsula by bringing some of the most respected scientists and environmentalists to work with students along the native shoreline just outside their schools. This hands-on approach to learning with nature is one of the most successful means to engage young learners in a positive way with the living systems that support our existence. Last year, over 1500 students from local public schools participated in our workshops.
